Right out side my bedroom I have a stone patio and steps that go to no where. When ever I have time I rake out leaves and pull out small seedings and weeds to reveal more of my lost garden, i find it so relaxing. The picture above was take a few weeks ago and now 95% of the snow has melted away. One thing I'm really going to need is a leaf blower for the fall, raking dead wet leaves in the spring is soo hard to do.
I have so many yard projects it would make your head spin! But for me it is so much fun! I can't wait to go shopping for plants that like the shade and ok for zones 5-6.

What a lovely little secret garden, I cannot wait to see it planted. I miss a woodland garden, as I have no real shady areas surrounding the house I have now.
Are you familiar with toad lilies? They are late-season bloomers, but the foliage is quite pretty. There is a variety that is hardy to zone four. I have one in a pot that thrives, and I do nothing to it but water. A link:

Gardening is relaxing, but the prepartion can be a bit tedious. I so want to plant some organic veggies and herbs this year. I found this cute website, www.littlehouseinthesuburb.com, that has good info on planting for a layman like myself.

Recommended shade plants: Bleeding Heart, Hydrangeas (big = oak leaf, small = blushing bride), Columbine (one of my favs), Astilbe, Hellabore.
You should plant your woods with Blue Bells!
