Plans for the living room

photoshop mockup

Ok, so I found my dream chair (I still can't believe it either) and I'm ready to give my living room some personality - and by that I mean some color and texture. I'm still researching places to get my chair reupholstered. If anyone knows any good ones around NH and MA, please let me know. Tips on good places to find cool fabric would also be appreciated.

Then there's the carpet: I currently have a large, ugly white berber carpet that I want to get rid of. I've always wanted a big white shag rug, but never wanted to invest that much money into a carpet (mostly because my husband and I are slobs!)

A few weeks ago when I was in Ikea I noticed the Stockholm shag rugs. They come in white cream, gray and a burnt orange color, and measure 7 ' 10 " x 5 ' 7 ". I want white, but the orange carpet is very similar to the orange wall in the dining room. If I could go and buy both to try them out, I would. Unfortunately, it's a 90 minute drive to Ikea. So I guess I will just go with white. I will need to buy two of them and sew or tape them together.

You'd have to ship your chair, but this guy is supposed to be really good:

yellow is my fav. DO it.

BTW - still so jealous.

get the gray Stockholm rug - its so nice in person and would look great with yellow. I wasn't a big fan of the beige...it was a little sad looking.

I do love the gray but I don't think it will go with my couches.

If you have a local Knoll dealer they should be able to recommend an upholsterer, or else try calling thier 1-800 number (I think you can get it from their website). We have friends that had a womb chair that was very worse for wear (cats using it as a scratching post!) so I asked our Knoll Showroom for a list of recommended upholsterers (I was in there picking up samples for a client) and they were very happy to comply. The chair is gorgeous now and is off limits to pets!
We have a vintage red leather womb chair complete with the footstool and we love it. We paid more than $80 for it though! Lucky you!

OMG! I found a guy who has done womb chairs before and it will cost $950.00 plus 7 yds of fabric, YIKES!

search for a local dealer to purchase yardage - they will have samples as well. they should have that beautiful yellow in one of the solids. it will last forever!

reupholstering always bites you in tush. its so pricey.

I need to reupholster my giant day-glo orange lounger and currently trying to save up.

I think the gray would look great with your couches. theres a lot of gray in that swatch...it seems a better fit than the beige.

But who knows my monitor may be screwy.

I just requested another swatch from room and board that is the same fabric as my couch. When I go to Ikea I will be ready to make a decision.

Reside recommended Kampler Upholstery in Boston (Allston), and they did a nice job on a chair I had done recently.

Hi Jenn I don't know if you found an upholstery place yet but believe it or not, Walpole state prison has an upholstery shop within, that they train the inmates to work in! They do good work for reasonable $$. Good luck!
