What happened to West Elm?

I used to blog about West Elm a lot, but I feel like they're getting a bit boring. Well, maybe boring is too strong a word... I have an old W.E. catalog that my mom gave me back in 2004 and I thought their stuff was amazing, so unique! Now I feel like they're another Crate & Barrel: nice, but yawn... They still have some pretty fabric patterns and furniture, but I miss the old West Elm. :(

I've thought the same for some time now. The catalog has been too much of the same thing for way too long. They need to do something drastic.

Yeah, I always remember there was at least 2 or 3 things at their store I just had to have. Now I can't find anything that appeals to me.

I never knew about West Elm until recently, but I have to say they just have the same stuff over and over. Rarely is there anything new. But I did get a beautiful dresser on clearance from them at a bargain--I love it. But I wish they'd step it up!

It seems like when West Elm first came on the scene - they were fresh and new - because they were really different. But they haven't evolved much at all - they've stuck with the same formula, and find themselves in the same conundrum (and doldrum) as crate and barrel.

I have to agree! I've been holding on to a $250 gift card for almost a year now. This is unheard of for me:). I have some old catalogs too-so much cooler.

I agree. 2004 I would have killed to visit a retail location. This week they opened one 5 minutes from my house, and now I am so 'meh' about it.
