I'm so mad I never learned to read or speak Polish

The National Museum of Warsaw
04 February - 17 April, 2011

"This pioneering exhibition of approximately 180 objects from the collection of the national museum in warsaw, featuring the most important examples of polish design, rarely seen in the west, explores the significance of the objects of everyday use in shaping modernity and the modern polish identity emerging during the post-thaw period." Argh! I would love to go to this show!!

My mom came to the states from Poland when she was in her late teens with her parents. When I was young they spoke it around me all the time, and still do. I think it never stuck because my dad was born here and didn't understand a word. I can pick up on the gist of a conversation, but maybe If I went there on vacation and immersed myself... nah probably not.

I feel the same way about french. My mother emigrated from Belgium when she was 9 but my grandparents and her used to speak it all the time (so she wouldn't forget).

Mum tried to teach me briefly but she didn't know how and so today I know none. Apart from how to say 'Hello. My name is...', that is.
