Too many treasures

I love going to flea markets and thrift stores and I'm always picking up stuff for my vintage Etsy shop. Yes I have another shop, but it's been empty for a long time now. I wanted to collect enough stuff to have a full shop. My closets and garage can no longer hold any more things, so this week I'll be taking photo's and posting items. Keep checking in!

Removing chrome rust

Last week I picked up an adorable yellow Cosco stepping stool on CL for $15. I've always wanted one in yellow and it will now come in handy to get at those high items in my office.

The down side, it had speckles of rust all over the chrome legs because it had been stored in a moist basement. The solution? Well I used crumbled up aluminum foil and rubbed the rust right off without scratching. If you have something smaller people even suggest soaking the chrome item in cola, then crumple up some foil and use it to scrub the rust away. Rinse with warm water and wipe dry. Make sure you have something underneath to collect the rust dust, it gets kinda messy.

New from West Elm

West Elm has bunch of new items you should check out. That metal work table is so cute!

I blogged about wooden puzzles back in November. The ones I found are all $5 and under.

One of these things is not like the other...

So a wonderful reader of mine from retroroadmap.com wanted to know if I would give her tea set a new home (pictured on left). I saw a picture, but didn't pay much attention, all I said was YESS! I assumed it was from my set that I had purchased on Etsy some time ago. Hooray right? Turns out the set she sent me was made in Germany and mine was made Japan. Interesting... Since Japan was heavy into making cheap ceramics in the 60's, I'm assuming the German Thomas set came first since it feels heavier and just overall better quality, but who knows.

Painting

As promised here are some shots of the new painting in my bedroom.

Goodwill Hunting

This looked like so much fun. Sherry from Young House Love and Katie from Bower Power browse a Goodwill store for interesting finds that can be used in stylish ways without spending much dough.

My friend Jennie and I always go thrifting and I don't know what it is that makes it soo much fun. The funky smells, the hunt for treasure, or getting things so cheap. It seems to give us such a high! We end up having an amazingly good time and there is always some crazy giggling involved.

Bedroom art

Ha me painting? Well I had an old stretched canvas laying around from college that must have had 7 layers of paintings hidden underneath. I did a quick design nothing fantastic (I normally work on smooth hardboard canvas anyway).

It's now in the master bedroom and it was going to go with a new duvet I ordered but, it turned out the one I got was not the right color at all, so sadly it went back. I did end up finding a cute white comforter at Tjmaxx while shopping with a friend. Simple clean done.

Once my snoring husband wakes up I'll take a picture of the bedroom and the finished painting.

Amy Tavern jewelry

I was Flickr today when I came across the work of Amy Tavern. Amy makes one-of-a-kind and limited edition jewelry that combines her interests in shape, line, pattern, negative space, and subtle visual movement. Amy's work is available at several galleries in the US and abroad. You can find her work online on her website and blog. Check out her Flickr page, she takes a lot of step by step shots of her work, really cool stuff. It's like looking at mini modernist sculptures being made.
