The house

Things are finally getting a bit normal around here. I'm still waiting for my sofas and mobile to arrive. That will hopefully fill up the living room nicely.

My office is taking a bit longer to work out because of the built-in closet and bookshelf. I feel a bit limited about what I can do: this is the darkest room in the house due to the small windows, and there is no wiring for a ceiling light... I'd like to make some curtains and I'm still wondering what to do with the walls.

Then there's the real wood paneling on the walls. The previous owners told me it was expensive wood and that I shouldn't take it down... I've never been a big fan of paneling, but I'm an even bigger fan of not plastering 12-foot-high walls! Hopefully with some funky curtains I will able to pull the room together. I would love to get my Flower Pot light hanging in there too, somehow.

Check out some pictures of my messy office:

hi jenn-
i've been lurking for a while because i love your new house (i'm a huge fan of midcentury homes-hope to own one some day). anyway, just wanted to point out that that is not your ordinary wood paneling and i think it looks fabulous (at least in pics). that was the first thing i noticed before i read your maybe dislike for it. keep them. they are great! plus the plastering idea is no fun...

Yes, you have a fab. house and I'm so jealous (though I'm getting a new home, soon!).

I would normally hate paneled walls but it looks like these are painted white? It does look cheery and charming from your pix.

Good luck getting it just how you want it. I'll about to have my very own studio in my new home for the first time so I'll be watching your blog for inspiration!

the office is looking so great!! I always talk about the craft room I will have all to myself when I have my own house. as of now, i have to just stack everything in piles in the apartments I live in while I'm in school. :)

Jenn, I think that paneling is, indeed, pecky cypress, a type of wood paneling that was popular (and expensive) in the 60s. If you head over to RetroRenovation.com (where I learned about YOUR blog!), there are some posts about it. Keep it and embrace it!

Yes - that's pecky cypress, I bet. I'm jealous, this is good stuff. See this post if you're interested in more:
