Saw this home on Apartment Therapy and though I'd share. The home is located South of Boston near the Audubon Society’s 2,000-acre Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary.

Design Research: The Store That Brought Modern Living to American Homes
A friend of mine sent me this Boston Globe article and I though I'd share. It's about a new book that tells how Design Research spread modern design across America. What is Design Research? It was a store that started in 1953 that sold modern wares in Cambridge, MA.
"Ben Thompson, who later chaired the architecture department at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design, began the store because his clients couldn’t find appropriate furnishings for the modern houses he and other architects were creating. D/R, he hoped, would supply that need. It was never particularly expensive. The concept was that good design could be found anywhere, from Peruvian mountain sweaters to modernist chairs by such name architects as Aalto, Breuer, Saarinen, Josef Hoffmann, Arne Jacobsen, Charles and Ray Eames, and many others." read more here

Birthday kisses
Whenever we go to the high-end garden center near our home, I always mention to my husband how I would love to have this cement planter. I make it a point to search for it every time I go, and feel a sigh of relief when I see it's still there. I never bought it because (A) I didn't NEED it; and (B) it was expensive...
Then this morning my husband Al said he needed to get something from the car and when he came back there it was in his arms. My mouth just dropped open! Best surprise ever!

Mad Men items up for auction (Dresses)
Mad Men items up for auction!
I found out about this yesterday, at first I wasn't going to post about it. Then last night I watched Mad Men and I decided to take another look. I wasn't really that excited about the office furniture but then on the last page I saw dresses! I love the green Joan Harris dress, wow!
"The ten-day charity auction will also feature a variety of vintage ‘60s furniture and props from the show’s iconic Sterling Cooper ad agency, including a number of pieces from the offices of Don Draper and Roger Sterling. Additional items include a dress worn by Betty at the Stork Club, one worn by Joan in the famous lawn-mower episode, and the dress worn by Bobbie Barrett during her night on the town with Don."

An island without oil
I saw this months ago on PBS and thought I'd share it with you all.
Danish island of Samso won a national contest in 1998 with an audacious bid to switch completely to renewable energy. And in just ten years, Samso achieved its goal. Residents now use wind, sun and even grapeseed oil to power their cars and homes.
Very inspiring!

Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt
This amazing lamp above was designed by Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt.
The suspension lamps are constructed of circular pieces of plywood. The lamps are here shown in three different constructions. The Bau pendants are produced by Normann-Copenhagen and will be available in shops by October 2010.
"The sort of experience I want people to have is to see the Bau Lamp and wonder what it looks like from the other side. It must appeal to people's sense of curiosity." -Vibeke

Interior designer Amy Lau
Beautiful images of a home decorated by Amy Lau. I really love that wall unit, I want to build something like that in the foyer, but way bigger.
My husband is actually making process on the platform bed. I'll post some pictures some time this week.

Vintage finds
Jackpot! Sunday at the flea market I got a light blue tupperware mold, a really cute wooden abacus and an amazing wooden puzzle (Naef Spiel), all for $1 each. The puzzle is from a Swiss company called Naef. They still make the game today, and it retails for $150. Not bad for $1!
Check out how the game is played below.
Bust magazine
I just found out my animal flash cards are featured in the Aug/Sept issue of Bust magazine. The feature is of Rachel Denbow's home, she is a crafter and artist. She hung my cards with twine and clothes pins to decorate her son's room.
Love it!
