My husband is on spring break and I'm putting him to work! We always wanted to make and sell furniture but we were always scared it wasn't a good road to go down. How can you compete with things made in China... you can't. We plan on making the sideboard, a new platform bed and night stands.
The sideboard is going to go in the foyer. It will replace the smaller console table I found on craigslist last year. The sideboard idea was actually inspired by Ben Kraftons work of Etsy shop Dela Flamant. I plan on having his work featured above and I want some of those wire hexpods from CB2 sitting on the sideboard. I can't wait!

Platform bed
We are full of ideas, but actually making it is the scary part. A while back I mentioned a sideboard project we'd designed. Sadly that hasn't come to be. My husband is a bit of a perfectionist and he hasn't yet figured out how to get a nice, even finish without an expensive sprayer... We are new to this furniture-making thing!
OK, so a bed. We really need a bed (and no paint finish problems to worry about!) I showed him some beds I liked and we decided on something simple and strong. We started buying the wood for the inside structure, I'll keep you all updated on our progress.

Designing a new dining table...
I recently scored a huge 10' sideboard on Craigslist. Now my fugly old Ikea table just looks really sad next to it. So for weeks I've had the idea rolling in my head to get a new glass dining table but everything I see I'm just not that into or its waaay over my budget.
I found an image on Pinterest that got my creative juices flowing. It's of candle holder from the 50's, I just love it and thought something like that would make a cool base. Then I started looking for more ideas...

Tips for finding treasures
I used to love hitting up the thrift stores but then every time I'd go it would just be junk. So I got discouraged, felt like it was a waste of time and stopped going. Then until recently I started going about 1- 2 times a week hitting about 2 or 3 stores at a time and I've been finding more things. You forget people are dropping off stuff everyday. Frequent visits will help you see how the store cycles out items. You learn how often the staff replenishes merchandise and on what days.
Also if you plan on selling your finds buy things that you love. Cause if you love them so will someone else.
Today I found a vase marked Germany, a metal nail horse sculpture and a cute turtle rocker. I planned on selling all these items in my booth, but that vase and sculpture are looking really good on my sideboard. I think I will hoard them for now, hee hee.

Dining Room Overhaul
Say goodbye to my orange wall...
On a whim I decided to redo my dining room. It all started when I fell in love with West Elm's Glass Disc Chandelier (which sadly is no longer available). From there I moved on to picking a paint color. I really love seeing all the dark colors that West Elm has been using and it really helped me in my decision to go this dark.
I got a gallon of paint from Sherwin Williams, the color is called Blue Peacock. Paint is on sale (30% off) now until the 31st. You can also use this coupon with the sale: $10 off $50 or more.
The wall is painted and the light is up but I still need to pick up a sideboard from Craigslist tomorrow. I'm so excited. I will post pictures soon!
